Location: Dublin City; Pembroke Street, Bowe Lane. Bray, Co.Wicklow. The entry begins with “Pembroke Street. 10am.” Sarah Purser is present and is noted to be agitated. Entry mentions A.E Child and how he did not turn up until after 11am, as he stayed overnight in Bray. Healy mentions that he did some work on the Clongowes window and that they heard occasional firing during the time they were in the shop. He also mentions how there were no newspapers that day; the post office work was suspended. And the gas was cut off which makes it impossible to fire glass.
Healy writes; “on the advice of Ms. Purser we took down the glass and made it safe as we could.” Healy showed her (Purser) a miniature that belonged to Ned Byrne and Purser did not like it much. Healy also writes about how Purser mentioned that she had a painting cleaned by Sir Hugh Lane, and goes on to describe the method of cleaning. Healy made an effort to go to the north side of the city but found it impossible. He made his way home through Bowe Lane. In this part of the entry he describes his disgust at the state of the city. He then mentions that “Nolan” did not come into the shop and that “Ryan” and “Williams” were the only two who came in to work. Purser suggested that they close the shop at 2.30pm. People of Note: A.E Child, Sarah Purser, Ned Byrne, Nolan, Ryan and Williams.
