Location: Dublin City; Whitefriar Street.
Subject: Single page from the diary of Michael Healy, stained glass artist and founder of An Túr Gloine. The entry begins at 8am and Healy describes how he went out that morning and he found that soldiers had surrounded the neighbourhood. However Healy himself said that he was able to get out and go to mass in Whitefriars Street and he mentions how lucky he was to get home because a lot of men could not get to, or from their homes. Healy goes on to say that ‘Mat’ had called on the same day and that ‘Matt’s’ “little one” (daughter) ‘Bridgie’ was sick. Healy writes that they “went down a bit of the way but had to come back” as they (Healy and Mat) were not allowed to pass. Healy notes at the end of this entry that the soldiers at the end of the street were kind enough to allow Mat to pass through. He also writes that it had been raining all night and day since the previous Friday.
People of Note: ‘Matt’, ‘Bridgie.’
