Photograph of face 1 of stone axe (ISAP 04654) from Seymourstown Black Or White, Co. Meath, from the National Museum of Ireland (NMI 1942:622). Macro-ID - Mudstone. Micro-ID - Mudstone U. Petrology - Grey/buff brown mudrock. Description - Both sides taper markedly from the butt and become straight towards the blade. Right side is slightly longer and has a longer straight section. Left is generally more convex in appearance. Right is pointed in section, left is more rounded. Both equally splayed. No clear junction with the edge, sides round to butt. Edge is curved, almost convex, asymmetrical, longer side on left, chipped, thin and still sharp. Blade is slightly asymmetrical, possibly flatter with a junction with face 2, more curved on face 1. medium. Faces are both convex in cross and long section, but face 2 is flatter overall than face 1. Butt is narrow and rounded, chipped, but complete, in section it is thin and rounded. Face 2 slopes more steeply to butt giving a lop-sided look in profile. Cross-section is oval flatter on face 2, more pointed on right. Profile is basically symmetrical. Medium. Damage to edge, butt and faces. Wear striae on face 1 going right to left at an obtuse angle. Core taken from face 1. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 14 cm, 6 cm, 2.8 cm, 326g.
