At the request of Leitrim County Council CRDS Ltd. have undertaken a programme of archaeological excavations for the N4 Dromod Roosky Bypass. In total 25 potential archaeological sites were identified during centreline testing as part of the Advance Archaeological Investigation: N4 Dromod Roosky Bypass (conducted by CRDS Ltd. under licence 05E0983). This report refers to the excavation of site A31-006 (Cloonturk 1) located in Cloonturk townland in the parish of Mohill and barony of Mohill, County Leitrim. Within the road scheme the site is located at chainage 3912 on the main N4 centreline. The programme of excavation was undertaken from 14th February 2006 to 12th April 2006 as part of Ministerial Direction A31. It was subsequently given the registration number E3293. The excavation of Site A31-006 (Cloonturk 1) revealed a series of post-medieval activity, with several features possibly being of an older date. The following report contains the Final results of the excavations. The excavations were carried out on behalf of Leitrim County Council and funded through the NRA under the NDP 2007-2013 and the EU Structural Fund. All archaeological finds were stored in CRDS Ltd. offices before being delivered to the National Museum of Ireland for permanent storage.
