Photograph of face 2 of stone axe (ISAP 12281) from Cushendall, Co. Antrim, from the Ulster Museum (UM WM 2395). Macro-ID - Porcellanite. Micro-ID - Porcellanite II. Petrology - Dark grey, lightly fine streaked, basaltic. Description - Sides - pointed towards blade and at centre, and facetted towards butt, left side and edge merge, right side damaged adjacent to edge, junctions of sides and butt clear. Edge - heavily chipped, worn and blunted, especially Face 1 centre, Face 2 right side. Blade - both faces two to three small remnant flake scars. Faces - central upper part of face 1 well defined, both faces have several medium to large remnant flake scars adjacent to both sides and towards butt, Face 2 has several medium sized remnant flake scars lower portion above blade area, polish and grinding best along centre of both faces. Butt - appears original, formed from a natural break, irregular surface. Core taken from centre of Face 1. No visible striae. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 15.3 cm, 7 cm, 4 cm, 593g.
