Focus group with eight mothers who participated in the early intervention programme Preparing for Life. This focus groups was conducted in 2009 as part of the process evaluation of the Preparing for Life (PFL) programme which was delivered by the community organisation Northside Partnership in Dublin from 2008. The process evaluation is part of a larger evaluation of PFL, which was conducted by researchers at the UCD Geary Institute between 2008 and 2015, and led by Dr Orla Doyle.
This transcript is from a focus group with seven mothers who were allocated into the low treatment group and one into the high treatment group by a randomisation process. The high treatment group received the full suite of supports from PFL including regular home visits from a dedicated mentor. The low treatment group received a limited amount of PFL supports including access to an Information Officer (IO) in their community. In this focus group interviewees discuss expectations before participating in PFL, differences between high and low treatment supports, and time limitations.
