The smell of the Bog is associated with John McGrath the fiddler/ composed from Mayo who was such a stalwart on the New York music scene in the first half of the 20th century. The tune was further popularised by the iconic ‘box’ player Joe Burke and featured on his milestone 1973 album Traditional Music of Ireland – Joe Burke with Charlie Lennon on piano.

The Dance of the Honeybee was composed by the aforementioned Leitrm piano-player and fiddler Charlie Lennon in April, 1986, as a waltz-hornpipe suite. The suite was written and titled Ladies Choice for the band De Dannan and the production An Island Wedding. Lennon was supposedly inspired by the buzzing and humming of honey bees around Howth, in North County Dublin; the waltz symbolically describes bees buzzing from flower to flower, while the hornpipe represents the ‘bee-dance’ performed on their return to the hive.
