This Conradh na Gaeilge Christmas card for 1913 is signed by Douglas
Hyde. It uses an illuminated letter N as its dominant motif, inspired
by the illuminated texts produced by Irish monks many centuries
The Gaelic Revival of the late 19th century reawakened interest in
Ireland's historic language and literature. In 1893, Douglas Hyde was a
founder of Conradh na Gaeilge (the Gaelic League), which promoted Irish
language and culture. Hyde went on to become the first President of the
Republic of Ireland.
