A special celebration of Irish-language traditional arts in the Ó Riada Hall, Department of Music, UCC, funded by Oireachtas na Gaeilge and recorded and broadcast by Raidió na Gaeltachta, to mark Bliain na Gaeilge (2018) and to highlight the vibrant culture Irish-language arts in the Department of Music. The Ó Riada Hall was packed full for this special Irish-language event which was presented and directed by Dr. Tríona Ní Shíocháin (Music, UCC), and included special guest performers including renowned seas-nós singers Páidí Mhárthain Mac Gearailt from the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, Máire Ní Chéileachair from Muskerry, and scholar and singer Dr. Ciarán Ó Gealbháin (Béaloideas, UCC) from Old Parish in Waterford and also Dr. Jack Talty, the UCC/Arts Council Traditional Artist in Residence 2018. The concert also included performances from acclaimed female uilleann piping duo, Mary Mitchell-Ingoldsby (Music, UCC) and Rose O’Leary, and also from Dr. Tríona Ní Shíocháin (Music, UCC) and North-Cork fiddle-player Yvonne Leahy and friends and students of the Music Department. The concert was preceded by an Irish-language sean-nós singing workshop with the legendary Páidí Mhárthain Mac Gearailt from Corca Dhuibhne.
