This video presents a computer-generated 3D reconstruction of a medieval moated site discovered at Ballinvinny South on the route of the N8 Glanmire–Watergrasshill road scheme, approx. 7 km north of Cork Harbour. The semi-defended settlement at Ballinvinny South, which was excavated in 2001 by Eamonn Cotter (Sheila Lane & Associates), consisted of a subrectangular moated enclosure with two internal rectangular houses. The dating of the site rests principally on the presence of 13th/14th-century pottery and on comparison with similar settlements elsewhere.
