Description: Photograph of face 1 of stone axe (ISAP 02856) from Killaloe, Co. Clare, from the National Museum of Ireland (NMI 1974:100). Macro-ID - Andesite? Petrology - Fine green basic/intermediate extrusive? Description - Sides - Both rounded. Sides and edge merge. Sides and butt merge. Edge - Blunt/sworn on left side, right relatively sharp. Single medium sized chip in centre. C-shaped in profile. Blade area - Very regular, well ground with low level polish on face 1, ground only on face 2. Faces - Both very regular, well ground. Face 1 has a low level of polish, face 2 ground only. Large remnant flake scar, only partially ground, adjacent to the butt on face 1. Upper portion of face 2 flattened in centre. Butt - Original, no damage. No striae. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 11.8 cm, 5.5 cm, 2.9 cm, 272g.
