Scanned drawing of stone axe (ISAP 12609) from Glenhead, Co. Antrim, from the Ulster Museum (UM WM 2055). Macro-ID - Gabbro Petrology - Coarse (< 5mm) intrusive, 60% feldspar, brown pyroxene groundmass. Description - Sides - Both broad rounded. Junctions of sides with edge clear. Sides and butt merge. Edge - Very sharp, with a few medium sized chips. Sinuous in profile. Blade area - Well ground and regular with a higher level of polish than most of the faces, extending onto the lower portions of both faces. faces - Both regular and well ground with the exception of two patches of remnant pecking in centre of face 2. Butt - A large piece has been broken of on face 1 left side and subsequently reground. Appears originally to have been rounded/rounded and is now (due to damage and regrinding) more rounded/pointed. Core taken from centre of face 2. Good specimen. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 19.6 cm, 7.2 cm, 3.9 cm, 868g.
