Transcript of life history interview with 'Sean' from Cohort B (born 1945-1954) of the Life Histories and Social Change collection (see Related Materials); Male, Roman Catholic, married and a father. Sean grew up in a town in a border county. After his father during Sean's infancy, his mother moved the family in with his grandmother and two spinster aunts. Sean's grandmother laid out the dead and assisted with births in the local community. He describes an urban childhood, where everyone on his street equally struggled to put food on the table. His own mother eventually set up her home with a loan from the Credit Union. Sean left school at 14 to train in a trade, a move he later regretted. He describes working in a transnational company and conflicting work practices between the different locations. He experienced redundancy during the 1980s, and re-entered the workforce in a different sector. In his interview he describes the struggle to re-establish himself in a new career path at this later stage of life. All names have been anonymised. Access to the transcript is through application to the Irish Qualitative Data Archive and is restricted to bona fide researchers and teachers, and to students that are currently registered at a third-level academic institution.
