Photograph of the left side of stone axe/adze (ISAP 08545) from Rathmullan, Co. Donegal, from the Ulster Museum (UM WM 1758). Macro-ID - Porcellanite. Micro-ID - Porcellanite II. Petrology - Dark grey, lightly streaked, mottled. Description - Sides - both rounded towards blade and flattened towards butt, right more markedly so than the left, junction of sides and edge clear, sides merge into butt. Edge - sharp, minor chipping along entire length, Face 1 right side single small chip, sinuous in profile. Blade - Face 1 blade area partly defined on left side, Face 2 two small remnant flake scars, Face 1 more convex than Face 2 in profile. Faces - Face 1 clear facets visible between centre and right side, Face 1 adjacent to right side couple shallow remnant flake scars, Face 2 right side several small to medium sized remnant flake scars. Butt - complete, undamaged. Very good specimen, high quality of polish and regularity on face 1. Core taken from left side. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 13 cm, 4.7 cm, 2.7cm 232g.
