Growing Up in Ireland (GUI) is the national longitudinal study of children in Ireland, launched in 2006. The first phase of the study extends over seven years and follows the progress of two groups of children: 9 year olds and 9 months old. A total of 120 families from the nine-year cohort participated in the qualitative study. This object describes the activities carried out by the child (Jamie) during the interview. The family is from an urban area in the south-east region of Ireland. This family consists of 1 resident parent and 4 family members in total. The family is also of a low socio-economic status. The activities involved during the interview includes ice-breaker activities, draw-and-write technique, visual prompts, activities and worksheet exercises, and essay writing conducted during child interviews. Ice-breaker activities: "My Time Capsule" and "My Passport". Draw-and-write techniques: draw factors contributing to keeping them well or making them unwell, "Wishes and Fears" list, drawings on family, community, neighbourhood and sense of citizenship. Visual prompts: Children’s Body Image Scale (CBIS; Truby & Paxton, 2002). Activities and worksheet exercises: "My Hand", "Life Ladder", "My Activities Calender" and "My Family and Me". Essay writing: "When I am 13 years old".
