Photograph of the right side of stone axe (ISAP 04351) from the National Museum of Ireland (NMI 1929:1126), from Patrickswell Co. Limerick. Description- Sides: Both flattened. Junctions of sides with butt present on left, damaged on right. Junctions of sides with reworked butt clear. Edge: Worn and blunted. Minor to moderate chipping over entire length, concentrated in centre. Straight in profile. Blade Area: Centre of face 2 damaged by a large shallow post-manufacture flake scar. Otherwise faces regular, well ground with a moderate level of polish. Faces: Both very regular, well ground and with a moderate level of polish. Butt: Has been reworked. Nature of original butt and break which removed it are unknown, as the break has been completely ground flat. There is some moderate flake damage extending from the butt onto the upper portion of both faces. The damage to the butt and the blunted blade area are consistent with the use of the axe as a swage (wedge?) Macro ID- Porcellanite? Micro ID- Unknown. Petrology- Brown fine grained intermediate extrusive. Dimensions- 11.8 cm, 7.8 cm, 5.6 cm. 699g.
