The Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh is an online interactive map of the city of Cork. It was released in December 2023 and is based on research and mapping carried out for Irish Historic Towns Atlas, no. 31, Cork/Corcaigh by H.B. Clarke and Máire Ní Laoi, which was published in print in May 2024.
One of the layers included in the Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh is 'Map 2', a specially commissioned reconstruction map of the city in 1842. It depicts individual plots, street/building names and other details. 'Topographical Information' gathered for the atlas is given for 6,245 sites in the Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh in a thematic way.
Map 2 and the Topographical Information are made available through DRI in various formats along with an overview, user guide, list of sources, video and tutorials that are part of the Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh resource.
The Digital Atlas of Cork/Corcaigh was funded by the Heritage Council Stewardship Fund 2023. An initiative of the Digital Working Group of the Irish Historic Towns Atlas, Royal Irish Academy, the project was led by Sarah Gearty and Rachel Murphy and it has been supported by partners Cork City Council, the Digital Repository of Ireland, the National Archives of Ireland and Tailte Éireann. The atlas was created using ESRI’s ArcGIS Experience Builder.
