The Dublin Reconstruction Act 1916 Index is a one -volume record of ‘Applications for Loans under the Act’ for the purpose of financing reconstruction and repair work to be carried out on the applicants’ premises following damage done during the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin.
The record book of 105 pages contains an index of street names and houses as well as an index of applicants. Each application is entered by Ignatius John Rice, Law Agent at City Hall, Dublin. The entries include brief notes on the correspondences received and sent giving dates.
Loose pages or accompanying correspondence consist in large part of completed application forms, letters sent to the City Law Agent from the applicants or their solicitors and his replies to them. These accompanying documents are held in separate acid-free folders with labels bearing the name and address of the applicant along with reference number.
33 applications in all are recorded, 10 of which have no accompanying correspondence. The applications, together with their relevant pages from the index, can be viewed in the Applications sub-collection of the Dublin Reconstruction Act collection.
