Photograph of the right side of stone axe (ISAP 04416) from Garryduff, Co. Galway, from the National Museum of Ireland (NMI 1929-1102). Macro-ID - Shale. Micro-ID - Shale II. Petrology - Black fine grained dense basic crystalline. Description - Sides - Right narrow flattened. Left pointed. Junctions of sides with edge clear on left, merges on right. Junctions of sides with butt clear. Edge - Worn and blunted. Minor chipping over entire length. Single minor chip on right side. Blade Area - Low to moderate level of polish. Faces - Central flattened area along centre of both faces. A few small to medium remnant flake scars adjacent to both sides on both faces. Area - of encrustation/weathering/scarring in centre of Face 2 upper portion. Small area of white encrustation (water?) on right side of axe. Butt - Slopes from left to the right side, slightly irregular in centre. No damage. Area of striae running obliquely from edge on centre of Face 2. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 22.5 cm, 9.9 cm, 4.1 cm, 1491g.
