This report comprises the final results of the archaeological excavation of Site 50, in the townland of Killbegs, Co. Wexford. Work was undertaken as part of the archaeological mitigation programme for the proposed N11 Gorey to Arklow Link Road Scheme. Excavation was conducted under Ministerial Direction No. A003/050, (Registration No E3508) by Kevin Martin, for Valerie J Keeley Ltd, from 28th June to 30th June 2005. Excavation of this site revealed no features of archaeological significance. Eleven natural clay deposits with charcoal flecks were evident on the site and were tested as potential archaeological features. A linear field drain that was initially identified in archaeological testing as a slot trench for a structure was found on excavation to be a modern dated field drain. The largest of the clay deposits excavated measured 3.50 long, 1.60m wide and 0.35m in depth. Another large deposit measured 2.20m long, 1.03m wide and 0.14m deep. The artefactual assemblage from the site consisted of 105 artefacts. The artefact types included: 103 pieces of flint, 1 pieces of chert and 1 sherd of post-medieval pottery. No artefacts were recovered from stratified contexts All archaeological work is now complete for this site and this report constitutes the final report on this excavation. A digital copy of the archive is available at the post excavation offices of Valerie J Keeley Ltd., Brehon House, Kilkenny Road, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. The original paper archive for this excavation will rest with the Road Design Offices of Wexford County Council.
