Mulhaire's No. 9 is a composition of the great button accordion player Martin Mulhaire, originally from Eyrecourt, Co. Galway, resident in New York for most of his life. He has many well-known tunes to his credit, including timeless classics such as The Golden Keyboard, Grandpa Tommy's Céilí Band and Carmel Mahoney-Mulhaire’s. Michael Curran, while attending school in St. Michael's College, Enniskillen, learnt this reel from Pat McCabe, a renowned teacher in the Fermanagh and Monaghan area, who influenced Michael in his formative years.
The Berehaven, is another composition of Finbarr Dwyer (see Track 1) whose originality and imagination has been a constant source of inspiration for Michael’s playing.
Michael is accompanied on piano by Mark McCrystall from Omagh, Co. Tyrone. Currently studying Music at Trinity College Dublin, Mark won the All-Ireland Senior Accompaniment title in 2014 on piano and is the current All-Ireland Senior Piano Champion.
This track was recorded by Fintan McManus at Railway Road Studios, Belturbet, Co. Cavan.
