Scanned drawing of stone axe (ISAP 03423) from Kiltiernan, Co. Dublin, from the National Museum of Ireland (NMI 1984:119). Macro-ID - Andesite? Petrology - Porcellanite like mottled grey green altered fine basic intrusive. Description - Sides - Both broad rounded. Junctions of sides with edge damaged. Junctions of sides with butt damaged on left, merge on right. Distinct band of post-polish pecking/damage running along length of the right side (hafting?). Edge - Worn and blunted. Moderate to heavy chipping over entire length. Slightly C-shaped in profile. Blade area - Distinct area of high level polish adjacent to the edge on both faces. Damaged on face 1 left side by a large shallow, flake scar (appears partially ground). Otherwise blade areas are regular and well ground with a moderate level of polish. faces - Both very regular, symmetrical, well ground and with a moderate level of polish. Butt - Damaged on the left side by a large deep post-manu. flake scar. Appears originally to have been rounded/rounded. Dimensions (length x width x thickness) - 19.6 cm, 7.6 cm, 4.7 cm, 1021g.
