Blessings and Overlooking (5mins 48secs)
There are great accounts here of the practice of offering blessings to someone but also the term to "overlook" someone. Many Travellers believe strongly in the act "overlooking" which is a fear of giving someone too much attention. This was the same within the settled community in the past but it has survived with many Travellers to this day.
The practice of wishing good luck to someone if they bought a new car or a new pair of shoes is right across Ireland too, however it is very strong within the Travelling community. Likewise if talking about a baby, or talking about someone who was pregnant, you'd always say "God Bless them" or similar at the end of the sentence. Also worth pointing out that this is used on social media and nowadays people use acronyms such as "GHB" (God Bless Him,Her) after they comment on a photo of a child or baby on Facebook.
In this clip, there is also a nice account of spinning a ring on your finger and making a wish for the man you want to marry.
