This report presents the results of archaeological investigations carried out on behalf of Kildare County Council and the National Roads Authority as part of Contract 4 Archaeological Services prior to the commencement of construction on the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford Scheme: Kilcullen to Powerstown. The work was undertaken under National Monuments Section Registration Number E2608, in the townland of Clonmelsh, Co. Carlow. The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, following consultation with the National Museum of Ireland directed that Liam Hackett of Headland Archaeology (Ireland) Ltd should proceed with archaeological resolution. Contract 3 Pre?Construction Testing under Ministerial Direction Number A021/050 on this site in August, 2005 identified two pits which contained prehistoric pottery, a chert flake and a fragment of a clay mould (Hackett and Hughes 2005). Full archaeological resolution was conducted on this site between 17 May and 24 May 2006. This revealed three pits associated with prehistoric pottery and three chert flakes.
