Terminations for Medical Reasons is a voluntary group that supports women, parents and families following diagnosis of a foetal anomaly during pregnancy. TFMR was founded by people who themselves received diagnoses and were refused termination of pregnancy services in Ireland, and had to either travel abroad to end their pregnancies or were forced to continue their pregnancies in Ireland against their wills. TFMR work to destigmatise termination of pregnancy and campaign for legal change in Ireland. TFMR were a key member of the Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment and an important contributor and stakeholder in the Together for Yes campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment in 2018. TFMR continue to campaign for the rights of people affected by foetal anomaly diagnosis and support those still forced to travel abroad to access abortion care. A sister organisation, Leanbh Mo Chroí, provides peer support to people facing a severe or fatal anomaly diagnosis in pregnancy.
