dc:description "This report contains the final results of an archaeological excavation carried out as part of the N8 Cashel Bypass & N74 Link Road. Site 7 was located on the east-facing slope of a low hillside in the townland of Monadreela, Cashel, Co. Tipperary. The licence to excavate Site 7 was issued by the Department of the Environment and Local Government to Neil O'Flanagan for Judith Carroll Network Archaeology Ltd. The excavation was carried out on behalf of South Tipperary County Council as part of archaeological resolution prior to construction of the N8 Cashel Bypass and N74 Link Road. The findings from Site 7 form part of a wider landscape of important prehistoric activity in this area. Artefactual and/or radiocarbon evidence from the excavation proved episodic use of this part of the Monadreela hillside though-out the Neolithic, Early and Late Bronze Age, Iron Age and Post-Medieval periods. Surprisingly, there was no evidence for Medieval settlement, associated with the nearby 13th century settlement, perhaps suggesting this part of the hillside was exclusively used for cultivation. The abundance of cultivation furrows noted across the site may support this notion. It is highly likely that associated archaeological features survive nearby in the surrounding fields, especially in the higher areas of the townland, and should the field be subject to development, it is recommended that advanced archaeological investigations are undertaken as a condition of planning approval being granted.";
