In this clip Kitty Connors, a Traveller woman from Dublin, but with strong Wexford roots, chats about the bad luck associated with a bird coming into the house and recalls a story about a jackdaw coming down the chimney and destroying the curtains and walls of her sister's house. In the clip she also mentions the "devil" and no sooner does she say it than she spits. Most older Traveller women will always react in such a way when the devil's name is mentioned in conversation. This quickly moves onto the idea of saying a blessing when you'd pass a comment on a new baby. Normally you'd say "God Bless Him,Her" etc as you'd wish the child luck and you wouldn't want to "overlook" them. Great that this is now observed with Travellers passing comments on Facebook!.
