This first tune is associated with the playing of Donegal fiddle player, Dermot McLaughlin. It was recorded by Paul McGrattan and Paul O’Shaughnessy on their duet album, Within a Mile of Dublin (1995). This tune has often been described as a fling or a barn-dance, the two dance tune types being very closely related.
The source for this selection was a session at Cultúrlann na hÉireann during the 2014 Tionól weekend to honour the Gradam an Chomhaltais recipient, Tomás Ó Maoldomnhaigh. This selection was prompted by Gerard Moloney (piano accordion) in a session with his brothers, Marcus on banjo and Ronan on flute, with Siobhán Ní Chonaráin amongst others.
During the session in question this second fling followed the first, and the only title available was Charlie's Fling.
