Ár nAthair atá ar neamh,
Is ' naomhaíthear th'ainm.
Go dtige do ríocht.
Go ndéantar do thoil agus do réir
Ar an dtalamh mar a déantar ar neamh.
Ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu.
Maith dhúinn ár gcionta
Mar a mhaithimid do chách do chiontaíos inár n-aghaidh
Ná léig sinn i gcathuíbh,
Ach saor sinn ós gach uile bhaol.
Amen.
Commentary:
Is le haghaidh anailís foghraíochta go príomha a rinneadh an taifeadadh seo de Phaidir an Tiarna á rá. Tá cúig shampla den phaidir seo i mbailiúchán Doegen. Tá stair fhoclaíocht Phaidir an Tiarna sa Ghaeilge rianta i sraith de thrí alt le Cathal G. Ó Háinle: 'The Pater noster in Irish: the pre-Reformation period', Celtica 21 (1990), 470-88; 'The Pater Noster in Irish: Reformation texts to c. 1650', Celtica 22 (1991), 145-64; 'An Phaidir: Ó Maolchonaire agus Ó hEodhasa', Celtica 24 (2003), 239-51.
Commentary:
This item, a recitation of the Lord's Prayer, was recorded primarily for phonetic
purposes. There are five examples of this prayer in the Doegen collection. For a
study of the Lord's Prayer in Irish see Cathal G. Ó Háinle's series of three essays:
'The Pater noster in Irish: the pre-Reformation period', Celtica 21 (1990), 470-88; 'The Pater
Noster in Irish: Reformation texts to c. 1650', Celtica 22 (1991), 145-64; 'An Phaidir: Ó Maolchonaire agus Ó hEodhasa', Celtica 24 (2003), 239-51.
