Archive of audio clips from the oral history interviews that were gathered as part of the HSE World Within Walls project, which relates the histories and memories of the St. Davnet’s Campus psychiatric hospital in Monaghan town. While access to the full interviews is restricted, this collection of audio clips was created to facilitate a level of access to the general public. In some cases audio clips are voiced by actors.
These clips are organised by theme as follows: appearance and clothing; buildings; childhood memories; changes; community care; death and funerals; families; food; impressions; life at the hospital; recreation; religion; relationships; staff; stories of patients; treatments, diagnoses and services; visitors; work on the grounds; work on the wards. Use the subject terms below to refine this large collection of audio clips by thematic area. This work has been made available under a Creative Commons licence.
The HSE World Within Walls collection aims to remember St. Davnet's history and its evolution from District Asylum in 1869, to psychiatric hospital and to its present role as a modern community mental health services campus. The full collection of interviews, images and scanned documents is archived at the Irish Qualitative Data Archive. Use the sub-collections of the World Within Walls collection to explore the different groups of items in this extensive collection.
