The 54 files in this series are a collection of miscellaneous photographs and slides taken of products, people, events and businesses associated with the KDW over the period from 1965 to 1988. The documentation is in the form of slides, negatives, photographic prints and transparencies. The items depicted in this series include; sculptural pieces by Oisin Kelly and Rowan Gillespie, various products and brochures designed by miscellaneous designers in the KDW, images of business premises from companies who worked with the KDW such as Manning Furniture Manufacturers, Superquinn and Fieldcrest Ltd., and collections of slides relating to art projects and exhibitions, trips to London and other European cities.
This small series was designated as ‘Miscellaneous’ by KDW and appears to be made up from items which could not be allocated to other series when the archive was organised circa 1984. There are no KDW record sheets associated with this series in the archive. The files and subject matters depicted in this series are wide-ranging and are unrelated to each other, and dates are not known for the majority of files. Some of the larger files in the series relate to exhibitions and art projects, one is described as a Royal College of Art project which shows students wearing hand-made hats, jewellery and neck pieces as well as examples of life-drawing sketches and studies. Another exhibition, described as 'Killers Work', features work by KDW designers Maxine Mearns and Rose Marie McGonagle, alongside other designers such as Peadar O'Loughlin and B. Cavanagh. Some early photographs depict an exhibition opening, possibly in the shop in Kilkenny, which features W.H. Walsh demonstrating items from the exhibition to guests.
Other files in the series depict graphic designed items such as KDW annual reports and others entitled 'Design and the Economy' and 'Policies and Priorities for Design', material for the Irish Agricultural Museum, a KDW flyer entitled 'Facts/Fiorais', and the book cover for the influential 'Design in Ireland – Report of the Scandinavian Design Group in Ireland, April 1961'. A number of files relate to Christmas card designs produced during the period between 1977 and 1979, some of which featured paintings by Mainee Jellett. Images of stone sculptures, mainly religious in theme from locations such as Waterford Cathedral and Ennis, Co. Clare, are also part of this particular file. Many files towards the end of the series feature single slides and prints of miscellaneous product shots, most likely all are KDW designed.
