Illustration of the planned 1916 memorial in Limerick, designed by Mr. Albert Power, R.H.A. Originally on the site of the monument was a memorial to Viscount John Fitzgibbon who died in the Crimean War; the I.R.A blew up this sculpture in 1930 and only the podium was left intact.
