The site had its origins in the prehistoric period; tentative signs of Neolithic occupation were recovered in the form of a range of lithic objects. In the succeeding Bronze Age a well and possibly a burnt mound were recorded. These were succeeded in the Iron Age by a ringditch associated with the deposition of burnt bones. However, the most significant aspect of the site was a succession of ditched enclosures dating to the medieval period and pointing to a sequence of continuous settlement between the fifth and 13th centuries AD. A large assemblage of animal bones (in excess of 700kg) was preserved in the fills of the enclosure ditches and other features. In addition, a wide range of artefacts including objects of copper, iron, bronze, glass, wood, antler, bone, pottery, and stone were also collected. Evidence for metalworking in both iron and copper was also recovered as was a series of eight early medieval wells. %G en %9 Text; Image; pdf %W Digital Repository of Ireland
