Preparing for Life collection: Children's Thoughts About School qualitative interview with child 2009 Northside Partnership Orla Doyle name=2013-2014; start=2013-01-01; end=2014-12-31 UCD Geary Institute PFL Evaluation Team Interview with a child in their first year of primary school (Junior Infants) from the Children's Thoughts About School study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in 2013 and 2014 as part of the process evaluation of the Preparing for Life (PFL) programme. The process evaluation is part of a larger evaluation of PFL, which was conducted by researchers at the UCD Geary Institute between 2008 and 2015, and led by Dr Orla Doyle. PFL was delivered in Dublin by the community organisation Northside Partnership from 2008. Interviews were conducted when each child was in their first year of primary education (Junior Infants) to capture the child’s subjective early school experience. Each interview contains the following components (1) the School Liking and Avoidance Questionnaire (SLAQ; Ladd, 1990); (2) semi-structured questions based on anthropomorphised character ‘Riley Rabbit’ who is starting school for the first time; (3) the Pictorial Measure of School Stress and Well-being (PMSSW; Murray and Harrison, 2005, 2014) and (4) a draw-and-talk activity where children were asked to draw a picture about school. Both a transcript and photo(s) of the child’s drawing is provided. Copyright Northside Partnership. This work is licensed for scientific research only.
