Alan Dukes, then Fine Gael Minister for Finance, at that party's Ard Fheis in Dublin's RDS in October 1984. He is seated at the top table, looking to the left of shot. RTÉ Television and Radio broadcast live coverage of the Ard Fheis on 6 and 7 October. The RTE Guide of 5 October 1984 featured an article on RTÉ's coverage of this Ard Fheis.
Alan Dukes was elected a TD for Kildare in 1981 and was Minister for Agriculture in the 1981-82 coalition government. He served as Minister for Finance (1982-86) and Justice (1986-87) in the 1982-87 Fine Gael/Labour coalition. He was leader of Fine Gael from 1987-90. Dukes lost his seat in the 2002 general election.
